Drilling JGS2 Quartz Glass

Drilling JGS2 Quartz Glass: JGS2 Quartz Glass, CTE 0.55 x 10^-6 /K; +/-0.02 mm hole position. No MOQ, prototypes in 5-10 days, DFM review with every RFQ.

Drilling JGS2 Quartz Glass

Drilling JGS2 Quartz Glass – JGS2 Quartz Glass (CTE 0.55 x 10^-6 /K, 220 nm – 2.5 um); Drilling to +/-0.02 mm hole position. No minimum order; DFM review included with every RFQ.

The combination of JGS2 Quartz Glass and Drilling comes up constantly in RFQs for a reason – the material offers lower oh than jgs1, and Drilling is the right way to get accurate geometry into it. Expect +/-0.02 mm hole position and exit-chip controlled below 0.1 mm.

Design guidance

The shop-floor rules that matter here:

  • Material note: thicker blanks need stress-relief annealing before tight-flatness grinding.
  • Process boundary: hole-to-edge distance should stay above 1.5x thickness to protect strength.
  • Over-specification is the quiet budget killer: a 20/10 scratch-dig face costs roughly three times an 80/50 face, so grade each surface individually.

The full rules live in our tolerance design guide and holes and edges design guide.

Process window

Drilling earns its place through through-holes, blind holes and countersinks at densities beyond 1,000 holes per part. Its boundary condition – hole-to-edge distance should stay above 1.5x thickness to protect strength – is the first thing our DFM review checks.

Beyond this page, JGS2 Quartz Glass routinely runs through lapping, cnc machining, grinding, double-side polishing in our shop – most real parts combine two or three of these steps.

Who orders this

The recurring buyers of drilling jgs2 quartz glass: microfluidic devices (chips, manifolds, via plates, bonded stacks); mems devices (cap wafers, TGV substrates, motion-sensor lids); semiconductor equipment (view ports, wafer carriers, plasma rings, chamber windows). Common questions

What tolerances are achievable on JGS2 Quartz Glass parts?

Ground features hold +/-0.01 mm and lapped thickness reaches +/-0.003 mm. Thicker blanks need stress-relief annealing before tight-flatness grinding.

What thickness range do you stock for JGS2 Quartz Glass?

Standard stock spans 0.20 – 40 mm, with blanks up to 300 mm diameter. Other formats are sourced per order.

How does JGS2 Quartz Glass behave under heat?

CTE is 0.55 x 10^-6 /K and continuous service reaches 1,100 C continuous, which is what drives its use where visible and near-IR clarity matters.

What accuracy does drilling hold?

+/-0.02 mm hole position with minimum features of 0.15 mm laser / 0.5 mm mechanical. Hole-to-edge distance should stay above 1.5x thickness to protect strength.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What if my part does not match any standard builder?

Use the custom glass builder: choose shape (including ring or drawing-defined), size, thickness, optional holes, coating and edge/surface finish, set a tolerance, preview it in 3D and attach a drawing to the RFQ.

Which materials can the custom builder use?

Fused silica, quartz, JGS1/JGS2, Borofloat 33, alkali-free and borosilicate glass, optical and soda-lime glass, or a named custom material such as sapphire or Zerodur.
